HEALTHCARE- REALITY CHECK

Recently my otherwise healthy kid had to go to UPMC Childrens Hospital ER w/some digestive problem. She spent few hrs there, got several tests done & was released the same night. Then came the bill. 2 phone calls to The Billing Dept. & few weeks later they finally sent us the requested detailed explanation of charges. Here they are, let’s just look at the largest #s on the bill:

first (highlighted in orange): IV hydration - (basically SALINE WATER through IV)-$ 638.00( FOR THE FIRST HOUR ONLY)

I have been a part of Occupy Pittsburgh since two weeks before the first march. My mother worked hard her whole life and bought her own house. She was $2K from paying it off when it was repossessed. She lives with me now. I'm having trouble keeping my head above water financially. Most of us are going through something similar. Occupy where ever you are it is the only to let these banks, corporations and globalist "elites" know, that we know the truth!

for years since the vietnam war protests in d.c. and the demonstration for 4 kent state students, ive prayed too, and today obama announced that all the troups in iraq are gonna be home for the holidays, iwas so happy and called all my friends to tell them the good news, and i cried happy tears every time i thought of it today and thanked god for finally answering my prayers. im no bible thumper or an evangelical chritian, i believe in a higher power. its a force that binds all living creatures in the world. peace now i say always.end of the lunacy.

I'm 51 years old and have had a great run. I fear for our kids, grandchildren and country. Over the last 4 decades Americans have grown fat and lazy. The majority of Americans don't vote. We have allowed corruption to strangle our values and way of life. The 2 party system has failed us. We have no credible leadership in our government. They will do and say anything to be elected so they can use and abuse this wealthy country.

I joined you Saturday to represent those who could not, because they have to work, or are so tired from working too many hours, to represent people like my husband Joe (no, he's not a plumber!), who works 2 jobs every day, is gone more than 16 hours a day. He does this so we can afford to keep our very modest home, so we can eat, so we can afford to buy the medications that keep me alive. He sleeps 4 hours a night, is aging before his time, all because he cannot get a decent paying job. He wants to work, all of us want to work and be productive.

I started working for Eckerd Health Services in RIDC Park, PA. in the fall of 2003 as a customer service representative.

Wall Street and War benefits the 1%, definitely not the 99%.

I am a single, computer professional in my mid-40's, and I've been saving money in my 401k for 25 years, investing, and being really prudent.

- I am one illness away from bankruptcy, and I know it -

I am 42 years old, with a college degree and have worked steadily in a solid career for about 20 years - until 2008 when I was laid off. Unable to find employment at a pay rate above half of what I used to make, I eventually started my own business with what was left of my 401K. I am getting by, but no health insurance. My support of the Occupy movement isn't about my misfortune. It is about injustice. For decades, large corporations have gotten a free ride and in for the most part controlled the decisions our elected officials have made.

I am a 31 year old married mom with a sweet 6 year old boy who is on the autism spectrum. My husband and I both work in the service industry opposite shifts so that one of us is able to be home with our son at all times. We could never afford to have someone care for him so that we could work at the same time and then have family time together in the evenings. None of us have healthcare, and even if it was offered at our workplaces we still could not afford to invest in it. We homeschool our son because he can't get into a public school without his current vaccinations.

I am 25 years old. I am a student at the University of Pittsburgh. I go to school full time as well as work full time managing a busy restaurant. I am married and rent an apartment in Pittsburgh. Many think that the supporters of this movement are lazy- I am not. Many think we are coddled- I have been supporting myself since I was 16. Many think we are dirty- I could not manage a restaurant with professionalism if that were true. Many think we are clueless - I am not. I want to see investigation and regulations of Wall Street. I want to see separation of corporate power and politics.

I am 25 year old wife, mother of two and domestic goddess. As most parents I want my children to have better than I did. To be able to ensure their future by saving for college and that they are able to get a quality education. I have seen so many teachers losing their jobs due to budget cuts and as my friends and family have struggled to make ends meet when they have been laid off from work. Or have to wonder how they will get medicine when they are ill because they don't have the health insurance they once had.

My name is Jane. I’m a 61 year old, single physical therapist.  I‘ve been very fortunate to remain employed since the financial meltdown in 2008.  I lost a large part of my retirement savings then, when it was raided along with those of millions of hard working Americans in order to bail out the bankers and Wall Street schemers. The same ones who put hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work and caused hundreds of thousands to lose their homes, their retirement savings, their plans to educate their children, and their hopes for a dignified old age.

I come from a large family of 7. My father was an entrepreneur and making more than enough to support the entire family comfortably. When his company went bankrupt in the 90s, he tried to find employment, but could only continue to be self-employed, finding gigs and odd-jobs where needed. My mother started working full-time, double-time, and triple-time. She has held 4 jobs since and works over 70 hours/week. She still provides free services to the community, often working for free and helping out the many less fortunate than us.

I am a 21 year old college student studying fiction writing. I am lucky enough that my parents are paying for my education, although I have also taken out loans in my name that I will probably have to pay off. The only thing I could ever imagine doing is writing novels (and of course working to change the world, for a revolution, for a world where people are equal and diversity is smiled on and things are run by cooperation and love instead of capitalism and government, instead of greed and wealth and corporations). I'll probably end up teaching or something.

I have a Doctorate degree and worked hard paying taxes gratefully every year until I was 49 years old. I was "downsized" by IBM in 2002. My job went to India. The jobs of all my good co-workers went to India. My last three years at IBM felt like a torture camp as we waited to be tapped on the shoulder as next to be unemployed. I had enjoyed and paid for health benefits all my life up until then but I could not afford the payments after COBRA ran out. My health benefits were terminated and at my age, I could not get another job with any corporation.
