As BNY Mellon and Occupy Pittsburgh continue to wage a legal battle, protesters likely will be able to remain in the bank-owned park for at least several more weeks as attorneys prepare their final briefs in the bank's bid to have the encampment removed through a preliminary injunction.

Not surprisingly, organizers of the Occupy Pittsburgh protest, who took over the park next to BNY Mellon last summer, also moved to occupy Grant Street and the City-County Building during a Jan. 10 hearing on the bank’s request to evict the protesters.

Occupy Pittsburgh said in court filings Thursday it took more than $7,300 in donations and donated goods to winterize its Downtown encampment at Mellon Green.

Bank of New York Mellon Corp. is trying to evict the protesters from the private park next to its Grant Street headquarters. A hearing is scheduled on its request Tuesday in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.

Lawyers representing Occupy Pittsburgh filed their first response in court Thursday arguing that protesters should be allowed to stay in BNY Mellon's private park, where they have been camping since mid-October.
